The Trouble with Summer…
Finally finished the first illustration for my 2012 Art House Sketchbook! This one took so much longer than planned (the day job keeps getting in the way!) but I’m happy with the result.
This is the first time I’ve broken out my new box of Faber-Castell Pitt Artist ink pens and I quite enjoyed using them. The brush tips allow for both quick and detailed work and keep their shape much better than the Copic Ciao markers I’ve used previously. The ink is water based, so is odourless. It stays wet just long enough to seamlessly blend shades of colour and, unlike the Ciao’s, barely bleeds through the paper.
The theme I picked for my sketchbook is ‘Fears and Tears’ – mainly because I’m looking forward to trying my hand at drawing some monsters 🙂
I’m looking forward to your take on colorful monsters too. As Richard Armitage said in his CBeebies bedtime story: “I quite like colorful monsters….they make me laugh.”
Is this a book you’re going to publish?
Hi Bccmee. I so agree with RA – you can’t go wrong with a good colourful monster!
The 2012 Sketchbook Project is an illustration project organised by the Art House Coop. Anyone can register and participate – you don’t have to be a professional artist or illustrator. In fact, it’s OK to be a complete novice as long as you promise to have fun!
It costs $25 to register and they send you a blank 16-page sketchbook (12.5 x 17.5cm in size) which you can fill with your sketches/drawings/collages/writing/prints/photos etc and return to them postmarked no later than 31 January 2012.
The returned sketchbooks will tour the US for public viewing. As of 2012, UK entries will be returned to the UK for exhibition in London and Australian entries will be on display in Melbourne after the US tour. After this ‘world tour’ all books will be returned to New York and will be kept in the Brooklyn Art Library for public access. You can also pay an additional $25 to have your sketchbook digitised so it will be available for worldwide viewing.
This is the first year I’m participating & although a blank sketchbook is rather intimidating, I’m determined to fill it up before January 2012!
Have a look at their website, http://www.arthousecoop.com/projects/sketchbookproject. If you want to sign up you’ll have to be quick though – I think the deadline for registration for the 2012 project is October 31st.
